Portland Interim Police Chief F. Heath Gorham at a Press Conference Recently at Police Headquarters During Which he Said the Police Department is Seriously Understaffed and Looking for New Hirees.

On Monday, October 10, 2022, just after 8:00 pm., Portland Police responded to the area of Washburn Avenue at St. John Street for the report of an altercation followed by the sound of gunshots.  The location is near Hadlock Field.

A vehicle seen leaving the area was stopped and the occupants were detained.  Officers found a significant amount of cash strewn on the ground in the area of the reported disturbance.  A semiautomatic handgun was also seized during the investigation.

There was no indication that anyone was injured and police are trying to determine what led up to the altercation and shooting.
