This evening Graham Platner announced in a video that he is suspending his US Senate campaign. He stated the reason was not because of the sexual assault allegations against him, but because of the Maine Democratic party. He said that he and his team have begun a movement, but that it can’t be continued by him.
Announcing this suspension was incredibly difficult for him, but not an admission of guilt by his accusers. Graham Platner and his team did “it the way we were supposed to do it.” He said it’s clear that Maine voters are “desperate” for a new kind of politics.” His decision was because the “structure was being taken away from us.” He hoped that the decision to replace him would be open and transparent and not made “in back rooms.”
He will be filing his papers to suspend his campaign soon.
“This blogger voted for Graham Platner for the US Senate. That is why I won’t be voting for anyone else for his “replacement.” I voted once. I won’t vote a second time for the same office. His message was origial and unique and I won’t vote for a copy cat. That’s why I will boycott the upcoming mid-term election and invite others to do the same. It’s also a protest because of how the Maine Democratic Party has mishandled the situation.”
