Get Out and Vote – Democracy is on the Ballot.

In a rare interview, Susan Collins today looked straight into the camera and lied, falsely claiming that Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was not the deciding vote  to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Despite the plain, well-documented records, Collins insisted that, “Whether Justice Kavanaugh was confirmed or not. Roe v. Wade would’ve been overturned, given the 6-3 vote.  “However, the vote was 5-4.  Collins surely knows this, but she seems to be betting that Maine voters are too ignorant to understand simple math

Graham Platner, candidaate for US Senate in Mane, released the following statment in response:

“Susan Collins is lying through her teeth.  Roe v. Wade was not overturned 6 – 3.  That is a lie.  It was 5 – 4.  Brett Kavanaugh WAS the deciding vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and Susan Collins, was the deciding vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court

“And let’s be very clear:  everyone knew that Brett Kavanaugh would overturn Roe.  She can lie and say she was mislead.  She can claim she’s disappointed.  But the reality is, she knew exactly why Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh — and she voted to confirm him anyway.  Sanator Collins is desperate to run away from her record — that’s why she hasn’t held a town hall since Bll Clinton was president.  It’s why she runs back to friendly Fox News interviews.  And it’s why she relies on elevator doors closing to avoid answering for her vote.  But come November, when Mainers go to the polls, neither friendly Fox News interviews nor elevator doors will be able to save her.”

“Further, Susan Collins voted to confirm Neil Gorsuch and Sam Alito, two other justices who voted to overturn Roe.  Collins’ lie today is just the latest in a long pattern.  For decades, she sold herself in Maine voters as a apro-choice Republican who would protect abortion rights.  She declared, before confirming Kavanaugh in 2018, that he considered Roe ‘settled law.”  He did not, of course, but Collins has never apologized.  In fact, she’s repeatedly doubled down.  She’s also voted to confirm generation of anti-choice judges.

So when Susan Collins stares into a camera and lies about how Roe was overturned, no one should be surprised.  She’s been lying to the people of Maine for decades.
