Fresh off his 50th town hall in Fort Kent, Graham Platner blasted Susan Collins for failing to report her husband’s purchase of up to $50,000 in Pfizer corporate bonds within the 45-day window — established in legislation authored by Collins herself.
“The lawbreaking isn’t even the worst part,” said Graham Platner. “It is blatantly corrupt for a Senator to hold a major financial interest in any company she regulates, let alone a cornerstone of Big Pharma.”
Platner also pointed out that Collins has opposed legislation banning Congressional stock trading, which he supports according to a press release issued late this evening. “It’s no wonder that Susan Collins is among Big Pharma’s greatest allies in the Senate: she has skin in the game.” Collins has received hundreds of dollars from Big Pharma, consistently voting in line with pharmaceutical interests. In contrast, Platner rolled out a healthcare platform on Wednesday calling for banning pharma advertising expanding federal authority to negotiate drug prices and establishing public drug manufacturing.
This is not the first time Collins’s husband stirred controversy — his company received $60 million in federal contracts, collecting tens of millions of dollars from agenies Senator Collins was charged with regulating.
This comes on the heels of a new poll conducted by Emerson College, finding that Graham Platner leads Governor Janet Mills by a massive 27-point margin in the primary and outperforms her in a general election matchup against Senator Collins. This is now the seventh consecutive independent poll finding Graham to be the stronger candidate in the general election.
Graham lives in Sullivan with his wife, Amy, just three doors down from the house where he grew up.
