Nicole Clegg, CEO and President of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. Previously, she was the Spokesperson for the city of Portand.
Yesterday, ahead of the fourth anniverary of the Supreme Court’s decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, Graham Platner received Planned Parenthood Action fund’s (PPAF) endorsement.
“…………. CEO Nicole Clegg and dozens of supporters joined Platner to discuss Susan Collins’ decisive vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, her opposition against codifying abortion rights and her continued support for anti-abortion judges.
Senator Collins has a long history of selling out Mainers and ignoring them when it matters most. At the start of yesterday’s event in Portland. State Legislator Rebecca Millett recalled traveling to Washington, DC in 2018 with more than a dozen Maine women and elected officials to urge Collins to vote against Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmtion. Collins REFUSED to even meet with them.
Nicole Clegg, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New England and Maine Action fund, described the significance of reproductive rights to Mainers, statding, “This is a moment for moral clarity. It is about whether Maine voters can trust the pepole who make decisions that affect our lives. One candidate in this race has owned their decisions, reflected on their impact and committed to doing better by the people of Maine, and that’s Graham Platner. He listens, he does not hide, he takes into account, because true leadership requires not only confidences but humility. I choose leadership that listens.”
Graham Platner made clear how fundamental access to safe and accessible reproductive healthcare is: “I fundamentally believe that every single American deserves access to high quality health care. Reproductive health care is healthcare. Abortion is heath care and building a system in which healthcare is provided to everyone, where decisions around heathcare are between patients and providers with no government middleman in between. That is the future that we all need to dedicate ourselves to.
Susan Collins may not regret her vote for Brett Kavanaugh, but many Mainers regret their vote for her,” said Graham Platner.
