The pink ribbons attached to lamp posts on Congress Street are a reminder that another “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk is happening this weekend. Rain or shine, the walk is set for Sunday, October 17th. The annual walk will begin in Monument Square in Portland at 11 am. Registration begins at 10 am. The walk is sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

The walk is a non-competitive, three-mile walk with a one-mile option, that unites thousands of women, men and children in the community to honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate people about how to reduce their breast cancer risk and raise funds and awareness to defeat this disease.

Teams, which can be of any size, and individuals should register by visiting the American Cancer Society’s easy-to-use website at cancer.org/stridesonline or by calling 1 – 800 – 227-2345. There is no registration fee or minimum amount to raise. All participants are encouraged to collect donations to support the Society’s mission to help people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back against breast cancer.

Over time, the Society has invested more in breast cancer research than any other voluntary public health organization. Since 1971, the Society has funded more than $419 million in breast cancer research.

There are four simultaneous walk sites in Maine – Brunswick, Damariscotta, Kittery and Portland.

  1. Hi. I desired to drop you a quick note to show my thanks. I’ve been following website for a month or more and get obtained a lot of reliable information in addition to enjoyed the way you’ve structured your blog. I’m trying to run my own personal blog site even so believe its way too general and I have to focus on scaled-down topics.

  2. I sort of found your website accidentally, but your site caught my attention i thought that I might post to show you that I like it.

  3. Maybe you have deemed adding additional videos to the websites to keep your readers more entertained? I mean I just read over the article of yours and it was really fine but as I’m really a visual learner,I found that to generally be more valuable. Just my my idea, Good luck
