Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (ME-01) Issues Statement on Trump’s Firing of FBI Director Comey.

In response to the news that President Trump has fired FBI Director James Comey today, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D.-01) issued the following statement in a press release:

“Why is President Trump firing FBI Director Comey now?  Why wasn’t he asked to resign on January 20th? Was the FBI making progress on the Russian investigation?

For months I’ve called for an outside special prosecutor who will give the American people the answers they deserve.  ‘You’re fired’ is not something you should be able to tell the person investigating you.  This isn’t a game show,” Pingree said.

Trump cited the way in which FBI Director Comey handled the Clinton email investigation as the justification for his rude and stunning firing of him.  Trump said it was necessary to fire Comey in order to restore the public’s trust in the FBI.  The more realistic reason for this crass firing is that Trump was and remains afraid of what an investigation into his dealings with Russia would uncover.  It screams of cover-up!

No rationale person could give any creditability to these justifications issued by Trump.
