Rep. Chellie Pingree (D) .

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-ME) today announced that her office is accepting requests for Community Project Funding in the Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations process.  Those funds will direct congressional spending to eligible projects conducted by state and local governments or 501(c)3 nonprofits.  The deadline to apply is 6;00 pm ET on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

“Last year, for the first time in more than a decade, Congress finaly took back the power to directly fund the needs of our constituents.  As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, I secured millions of dollars for ten community funding projects last year and I will fight to deliver even more direct funding for our communities in the coming years,” said Congresswoman Pingree, a longtime member of the House Appropriations Committee, chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior Environment and Related Agencies.  “I have no doubt the successes of the FY 22 Appropriations bill will continue into 2023 as we begin this process again.  I encourage local governments and nonprofit organizations in my district to apply for this unique direct funding opportunity.  The deadline is 6:00 pm ET on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 as stated previously.

Last year, the House Appropriations’ Committee reintroduced Community Project Funding after the House Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress found that congressionally-directed spending boosted bipartisanship, facililtated member-to-member cooperation and gave members an equal stake in the success of appropriations bills.  The House Appropriations Committee has outlined requirements for the new Community Project Funding request process to facilitate transparency, accountability and ensure strong community support.  Each member will be permitted to submit 15 projects for consideration which all must be thoroughly vetted and will be publicly disclosed on Pingree’s website
