Surely From Among All of These Used Books You can Find One or More That You Really Want to Read or Give as a Gift to Another Reader!

The annual Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (“OLLI”) Used Book Sale is set for next week – Friday, May 5th from 2:00 – 5:00 pm and again on Saturday, May 6th from 9:00 – 2:00 pm. at the Wishcamper Center, Room 102, on the USM Portland campus.

Proceeds go to support the scholarship fund at OLLI.

For sale are thousands of books, CD’s, DVD’s, Puzzles, Games and Baked Goods.  Checks and cash only are accepted.   Checks should be made out to OLLI.

The price list is as follows: pocket sized paperbacks, $.50 or 3 for $1.00; Large soft covers, $1.00 or 3 for $2.00; Hard covers $2.00 or 3 for $5.00; DVD’s $2.00 or 3 for $5.00; CD’s $1. or 3 for $2.00; Puzzles/games $1.00 or 3 for $2.00.  Last year the book sale garnered $2,000.00 for the scholarship fund.

OLLI is an educational program for anyone 50 or older with a curious mind and an interest in learning just for the joy of it.  Currently, there are 1,900 older learners who are members of OLLI.

Members can register for an extensive array of peer-taught courses in the liberal arts and  sciences.  There are no entrance requirements, grades or tests.  Your experience and love of learning are what count. Some classes involve homework, although it is not mandatory.  Each member also receives a monthly on-line newsletter.  OLLI at USM is one of 17 Senior Colleges throughout Maine and participates in the Maine Senior College Network (www.maineseniorcollege.org).   Currently there are 119 OLLIs throughout the country.

The summer 2017 class schedule is available – the semester runs from June 20 – July 27th.   Members can see it on-line or in person at the OLLI office in the Wishcamper Center, USM, Portland.  There are a number of special interest groups as well.
