The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) announced earlier this week that it has awarded eleven (11) entities funding “for projects to strengthen communities, expand workforce opportunities and support economic growth in Maine.
Created in 2008, the NBRC is a federal-state partnership focused on alleviating economic distress and encouraging private sector job creation in Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.
Each year, the NBRC provides federal funds for critical economic and community development projects through its spring and fall funding rounds. These latest awards through NBRC will deliver critical investments to municipallities and nonprofit organzaations to train Maine’s workforce, build and upgrade essential infrastructure and help communities attract and retain businesses.
The 2025 Maine NBRC awardees are:
The town of Jonesport, $799,615; Caribou Utilities District, $1,000,000; Maine Development Foundation, $500,000; Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, $100,000; Banbor YMCA, $1,000,000; Friends of Veterans Memorial Library, $606,691; St. Joseph Hospital, $491,204; Center for Entrenpreneurial Studies, $499,869.76; Hancock County Planning Commission, $35,162; Monmouth Water Association, $1,000,000; and Outdoor Sport Institute, $1,000,000.
Maine’s NBRC region includes Androscoggin, Aroostook, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo and Washington Counties.
“With more than $20.6 million invested in Maine this year alone, NBRC is a vital partner in implementing Maine Economic & Commuity Development Commissioner Mike Duguay. “The Commission’s support often provides exactly the funding needed to make local projects possible. Without NBRC’s investment, many of these community-driven initiatives are much harder to achieve.”
The NBRC’s grants management system will open again for the spring round in February 2026. For updates on funding opportunities, please visit www.nbrc.gov.
