Dr. Nirav Shah, Director of MaineCDC is Leaving This Post in March 2023, to Serve as Deputy Director for the US CDC.

Maine Center for Disease (CDC) Diretor Nirav D. Shah will join Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D) as her special guest for President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address tonight, Tuesday, February 7th.  Director Shah who helped to lead Maine through the coronavirus pandemic and oversaw the state’s widely successful vaccination program, will soon join the US CDC as principal deputy director.

The President’s address will be carried live on tv networks and begins at 9:00 pm EST.

Under the leadership of Governor Janet T. Mills (D), the first woman governor of Maine, Maine DHHS Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew  and Director Shah, Maine has one of the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates and one of the lowest death rates, despite having one of the oldest populations in the nation.
