Nicole Clegg, Portland’s Director of Communications, announced yesterday that she will be leaving her post effective Friday, October 11th. After almost ten years in that position, she has decided to return to a former employer of hers, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. In this new position, she will have an opportunity to work on policies and issues that are very close to her heart, Clegg said in a press release issued yesterday.
“It was not an easy decision as I have enjoyed working for the city immensely. Over the years, I have been impressed by the commitment and passion my coworkers bring to their jobs and I have learned a great deal from them. It has also been an amazing opportunity to work with members of Maine’s press corps, who have challenged and kept me on my toes on more than one occasion.”
Clegg said that she plans on taking off a couple of weeks before starting her new position with Planned Parenthood. “I want to spend some time with Ben and Jessee,” she said. Ben is her 6 l/2 year old son and Jessee is her husband who is chief of staff for Congrresswoman Chellie Pingree in Washington, D.C. As a Federal employee, he is one of the 800 not getting paid because of the government shutdown she said. “He’s concerned,” she said.
Michael Bobinsky, Director of the Public Works Department for the City said: “Nicole will be sorely missed. She maintained a very high standard of professionalism while performing a number of different duties. We are sorry to lose her.”
