New (Dog Friendly) Bayside Trail 5K Race Happening: 11/14

The Bayside Trail Campaign Committee has announced an open registration for a 5K “trail race” benefiting Portland’s new Bayside Trail. It’s a 1.2 mile-long trail that starts at the Casco Bay Lines on Commercial Street at 9 am on Sunday, November 14. The finish is at 11 am at Bayside Trail’s Elm Street plaza, behind Trader Joe’s. The cost is $20. for those who pre-register and $25. the day of the race. Registration is available through November 7th.

Joan Benoit Samuelson, the first ever female marathon Oympic gold medalist will attend. Runners are encouraged to bring dogs on leash. Every participating dog will receive a free dog toy, compliments of Planet Dog.

The course runs east following the Eastern Promenade Trail. Race includes the entire length of Eastern Promenade Trail and merges onto the Bayside Trail where it intersects at the waste treatment facility plaza (end of Sewage Plant Road/Marginal Way.) The race continues entire length of the Bayside Trail, crossing Anderson Street, Cove Street, Diamond Street, Boyd Street, Franklin Arterial and Chestnut Street.

First place male and female runners will each receive a gift certificate for a new pair of running shoes from the Maine Running Company. Runner with top dog will receive a $150 gift certificate to Planet Dog.
