“We decided to hold this block party to meet more of our neighbors,” said Katy Blanz, one of three career woman who organized the event that was held yesterday afternoon at Munjoy South Park not far from the street on which the three friends live.  Ms. Blanz works for an ocean observation non-profit

All three have demanding careers that keep them busy, making it difficult to get to know their neighbors.

Close to 75 people took advantage of the sunny, warm weather to meet their neighbors who live on Munjoy Hill.  There was  a table of snacks that included pumpkin bread, apple cider and cookies and much more. There were crafts and games for the children who showed up in droves according to Elise Morano. a Bowdoin College graduate and owner of Broadleaf Learning.com.

Elise Morano and Katy Blanz have lived on the HIll for only three years and so this was a good opportunity to meet their neighbors.  Kristin Trabucchi has lived on the Hill longer, but with her husband and daughter Stella, almost two years old, it provided a great way for them to spend a Sunday afternoon together.

Ms.Trabucchi said expense of the event was significantly helped because the city of Portland waived the use of the Park fee.  Normally, the city charges $75. an hour for the use of a park.

“We just might make this an annual event,” said Ms. Trabucchi.  She is an attorney in the office of Attorney General Aaron Frey in Augusta in the Health & Human Services Division..
