Death of Harpswell Boater Under Investigation by Maine Marine Patrol

The Maine Marine Patrol is investigatding a recreational boating death that occurred yesterday at approximately 7:50 pm, ,According to Maine Patrol reports, Samuel Sharpe, 23, of Harpswell, fell from a 19-foot center console boat when operating it near South Harpswell.  Based on observations of his injuries, Sharpe appeared to have been struck by the boat’s propeller.

Good Smaritians who witnessed the incident pulled him from the water and transported him to shore at Potts Point Landing on South Harpswell.  Members of the Harpswell Fire and Recue attempted lifesaving measures.  However, Sharpe succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His body has been transportd to a local funeral home and will be examined by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.

US Coast Guard personnel secured the boat and the Harpswell Harbormaster brought it to shore.
