‘Maine Healthcare Workers for Palestine’ Host Two Protests Saturday, January 11th; Lewiston & Bangor

Maine Healthcare Workers for Palestine is hosting two Marches & Vigils on Saturday, January 11 at 2:00 pm.  They are to protest the systematic targeting of hospital and healthcare workers in Gaza according to information received this afternoon from the nonprofit.

In Lewiston, you are encouraged to gather at Kennedy Park, 120 Park Street and march to Central Maine Medical Center.

The second protest is in Bangor.  Please gather at Cascade Park, 614 State Street and march to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Healthcare Workers at both rallies will call for the immediate release of all 450 plus medical workers abducted by Israel, including Hospital Director Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya.  Dr. Safiya was taken from Kamal Adwan Hospital and is believed to be held at Israel’s Sde Tieman Detention Center, infamous for its torture and starvation torture.  The speakers will call for an immediate arms embargo on Israel, an end to the genocide, immediate humanitarian aid at needed levels an end to the torture and the release of all Palestinian hostages and prisoners and accountability for Israeli’s crdimes against humanity. Speakers will call on professional medical organizations and healthcare institutions to speak out publicly denouncing the deliberate attacks on Gaza’s healhcare system.

THE LEAHY LAW:  Refers to two statutory provisions prohibiting the US Government from using funds for assistance to units of foreign security forces where there is credible information implicadting that units in the commission of gross violations of human rights.
