Two Maine-based artists are featured in the just opened ‘Light in Every Room’ art show at Moss Galleries on Munjoy Hill. Both women are well-known in Maine; Gail Spaien & Lynne Drexler. The show opened Friday, October 25, 2024 and runs through January 4, 2025 at 100 Fore Street.
Ms. Spaien believes that every painting is a “site connection.” She succeeds when that painting evokes an emotion from the viewer that says – “I want to go to that place.” She has retired from teaching at Maine College of Art & Design and has been awarded numerous fellowships to pursue her artwork. Spaien has eight paintings in this art show Visit her web page to see many places you would like to go to as well!
Since her death in 1999 on Monhegan Island, abstract artist Lynne Drexler has achieved international recognition for her art work. She has six art pieces in this show with one of them commanding the sales price of $550,000.
Craig Becker, a professional photographer working at Moss Galliers today, said: “There is an interesting similarity in these works. Not only are they landscape paintings, but both artists used patterns in similar ways to create movement.” He pointed to those pattern similarities in both of the above works showed above.
