On Saturday, August 5th at 9:00 am., Portland Police responded to  a report of a male bothering customers and causing a disturbance at Starbucks at 145 Commercial Street.  The male suspect refused to identify himself and after talking with sidewalk vendors outside, the male was placed under arrest and taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

Immediately after this call, Police received a report of a burglary at Becky’s Diner at 350 Commercial Street.  During the investigation, it was found a male entered the property and poured windshield fluid over several chairs, tables, a baby seat booster and several mugs and cups that will be used for food service in the morning.  The officer investigating this incident was able to  link the previous suspect from Starbucks, to the incident at Becky’s.

Our partners at the Cumberland County Jail put substantial effort into identifying the suspect and several hours after the initial arrest, he was positively identified as Edwell Gethers of Lewiston.

He was charged with Failure to Provide Correct Name, Address, Date of Birth and Indecent Conduct and Violating Conditions of Release for the Incident at Starbucks, Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer Reckless Conduct were added stemming from the Incident at Becky’s Diner.
