A Justice for Breonna Taylor Rally is scheduled for today, Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Portland Maine Police Department between 4:00 – 8:00 pm. The address of the Department headquarters is 109 Middle Street, Portland. The event is hosted by Black Lives Matter Maine.

Please wear a face mask for the protection of others.

The Rally is part of a national protest against police brutality and to demand justice for Breonna Taylor according to a press release. Earlier this week, a grand jury in Louisville, Kentucky, did not charge officers in the death of 26 year-old Taylor- a decision by a Black attorney general Daniel Cameron.

This decision appears at odds with the award by the city of Louisville of $12 million in settlement to Taylor’s family.  “That gave the impression there was something fundamentally wrong with the Police Department before the facts of the case were made available,” said a front page article in “The New York Times” yesterday, Friday, September 25, 2020, written by several reporters. Opponents of the Cameron decision began calling for the opening up of the transcript of the grand jury deliberations to determine how biased and one-sided the evidence presented probably was.

“Release the Transcript” is the new battle cry of many in the Black Lives Matter movement.
