“We got the go ahead from city manager Jon Jennings to begin negotiations for an agreement with Jump to launch a pilot bike share program in 2019,” said Bruce Hyman, Transportation Program Manager, late this morning. It could be introduced to the peninsula by early summer.

“There is no cost to the city, so our regulations spell out the minimum requirements for operations of a system, but there is room for working above and beyond those minimums and meeting the needs of the operator. Uber has some unique technologies to manage the bike program, Bruce said. He went on to say that the program will start on the peninsula as their service area and we may request to revise it a little to meet all the city’s key destinations are covered.

Jump was founded in 2010 and purchased by Uber last year.
