The public is invited to join local historian and former state legislator Herb Adams for a fascnating walking tour of the Eastern Promenade this Saturday, June 18th. The tour runs from 10 am to noon and it begins at the bandstand in Ft. Allen Park.
Over 200 years of Portland’s history and heritage is reflected in the Eastern Promenade. From the city’s oldest earthworks (Ft. Allen, War of 1812) to its newest memorial (the 9/11 Monument), the Eastern Promenade symbolizes Portland’s story as it has fronted the sea and faced changing times. From Mowatt’s bombardment in 1775, to P.O.W. graves from 1812, to WWII shipyards, from forested hilltop to tourist mecca and Maine’s tallest buildings, the Eastern Prom has seen it all,” according to a press release from the Friends of the Eastern Promenade.
The cost is $5. for members of Friends of the Eastern Promenade and $10. for non-members. Reservations are required and space is limited. Please RSVP to info@friendsofeasternpromenade.org
