Join the Candelight Vigil Protesting Houlton Regional Hospital Unit Closing, April 23th

You are invited to join Houlton Regional Hospital (HRH) nurses and community members at a candelight vigil tomorrow, Wedneday, April 23rd at 6:00 pm at the Houlton Riverfront Park, 49 North Street, (near the walking bridge) according to a press release issued by the Maine State Nurses Assosciation yesterday.

The purpose of the Vigil is to once again demand that the hospital administration cancel its plans to close their Labor Delivery Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) department.  This Vigil follows a standing room only town hall meeting held on April 9, 2025.

Since the town hall meeting on April 9, over 1,400 people have signed a public petition demanding the birthing unit remain open.  Members of the public and nurses additioallly are asking for more transparency and accountability in the hospital’s decision making processes.
