Investigation Ongoing Into Handgun Display & Threats in Portland by Three

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 9:09 pm., Portland Police responded to the Cumberland Islamic Center, at 1844 Forest Avenue for a weapons possession call.  Witnesses stated that three individuals in a black BMW vehicle pulled up to the front entrance of the mosque, with two of the occpants displayng handguns and making threatening remarks toward an individual.

Shortly thereafter, the vehilce was located by alert patrol officers at the Maine Muslim Community Center, 118 Anderson Street.  Two juvenile suspects were taken into custody and interviewedd by Detectives and ultimately released to their parents with charges pending.  A 19 year old was also taken into custody with charges pending and released.

No one was injured and no guns have been recovered at this point in the ongoing investigation.
