Perhaps it was cabin fever that brought a crowd of about two hundred people to Monument Square late this afternoon to participate in the second annual International Pillow Fight. Or maybe more publicity this year from last year. But whatever the reason folks from all over Portland and of all ages showed up with their soft pillows to engage each other in a fun event that lasted about an hour or until they got tired – whichever came first. The event was hosted by DISPATCH, a Portland based events magazine that’s three years old.
The event was free and no registration was required. Rules were in plain sight – such as use a soft pillow, don’t hit anyone with a camera and more that everyone seemed to be following. A cash award of $100. was presented to the person with the best costume – in keeping with the theme – superheroes vs. villains. Over sixty cities around the world participated in this event. They include Amsterdam, Atlanta, Austin, Berlin, Paris, Rome Toronto, etc.
“We wanted to have a fun, silly event and this seemed like a good idea,” said Trevor Geiger, marketing director, for DISPATCH. “We’ll be back next year,” he said grinning.
