Home Explosion in Oakland Likely Caused by Propone Leak; Seriously Injured Man Identified

The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the cause of an explosion that occured Thursday, November 27th at approximaely 3:00 pm on Lakeview Drive in Oakland.

The two-story residence was destroyed in the blast.  Initial indications are that a propane gas leak found an ignition source, leading to the explosion.  Investigators have ruled out the propane tanks themselves as the source of the leak and are now examining serveral propane appliances for the cause.

Cliff Hannon, 66, was inside the home at the time of the explosion.  Hannon sustained serious injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center.

Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office remain on scene today, working alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and others to determine the cause of the explosion.
