In the early hours of January 11, 2023, Portland Police officers were called to the 200 block of Woodford Street after a report of suspicious activity.
Upon arrival, 35-year-old Tyson Dyer of Portland was found sitting in a vehicle. When he stepped out of the vehicle, a firearm magazine was observed near his waistband. Upon search of the vehicle, a Polymer 80 Inc. 9 mm handgun was recovered along with six loaded firearm magazines. Two of the magazines were “extended” and held 21 rounds each. The search also uncovered cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
A previously convicted felon, Dyer ws charged with Unlawful Possession of Schedule Drugs and Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a prohibited person.
“We are fortunate that this gun was taken out of the hands of a person that was not allowed to possess it,” said Interim Police Chief Health Gorham. “My officers don’t carry 106 rounds of ammunition and I’m afraid to think what could have happened if he wasn’t taken off the street. We had more than 50 incidents of gun violence last year and thanks to efforts like this, we are hoping to lessen that number in 2023,” added Gorham.
