Greater Portland Landmarks is excited to announce that it has hired Kate Lemos McHale as its new Executive Director. She starts her new position on Monday, July 1, 2024.
McHale, a Damariscotta native, has been working in historic preservation in New York City for more than 20 years. For the past seven years, she was the director of research at the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC), where she managed a staff of 12 and the survey research, evaluation and designation of landmarks and historic districts.
A passionate spokesperson and advocate for historic preservtion, McHale has been closely following our actions related to the re-classifiction of 142 Free Street and has participated remotely in strategy meetings.
McHale takes over as executive director at an important time for Landmarks as board President Bruce Rouliard noted after she was selected from a pool of highly qualified applicants She stood out as a leader with the proven ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders. “`
