Governor Mills Statement on President’s Threat to Withhold Education Funding in Maine

“If the President attempts to unilaterally deprive Maine school children of the benefit of Federal funding, my Administration and the Attorney General will take all appropriate and necessary legal action to restore that funding and the academic opportunity it provides.

The State of Maine will not be intimidated by the President’s threats.”  Governor Mills was the first woman attorney general for the state as well as its first woman Governor.”

This statement from the Governor’s office came before an exchange between Governorr Janet T. Mills (D-ME) and Trump at the White House on his threat to end Federal funding for Maine schools unless the state complies with his illegal restricts.  “See you in court,” Governor Mills said to Trump.  Governor Mills was partiipating in the 2025 National Governor Association Winter Meeting in Washington, DC when the exchange took place.  Maine rejoined the NGA when the Governor took office and hosted the Summer Meeting in Portland in July of 2022.

“Neither of Senator Susan Collins’ (R) offices are accepting phone calls from the public today. This blogger has tried  to reach her by phone to see if she has any comment on the President’s threat to withhold Federal funding based on his transgender policy. Her press person, Blake, has not responded to an inquiry on the matter from this blogger as well.”
