Governor Janet T. Mills, 77, (D-ME) has rejected participation in a newly formed coalition that fifteen other Blue governors launched yesterday. Establishment of the “Governors Public Health Alliance” was announced yesterday.
But Maine’s Governor was not one of them according to an in-depth, detailed article in today’s “The Wall Street Journal” – entitled “States Ally on Public Health.”
According to the same “Journal” article, this new coalition is the “………largest move to create an alternatve public health universe outside the federal government.”
Furthermore, this morning on cable news Democratic Governor Jared Polis, of Colorado, announced the formation of this coalition of 15 governors across the country. While it is currently composed of Democratic governors, Governor Polis said that it is a bipartisan group and other Governors are invited to participate in the coalition.
Stunningly and as reported above, missing from participation in the new Governors Public Health Alliance is Governor Janet T. Mills, 77. “Maine is not part of this alliance, but is already working with many of these states through the Northeast Public Health Collaborative, as Governor Mills announced in September. We will continue to find ways to work with states and other regional partners to keep Maine people healthy and safe,” was the response to a query from this blogger by the Governor’s thin- skinned communications department. earlier today. “Overlap? That’s original,” was the response to Ben Goodman, Communications Director for the Governor. “This blogger believes in overlap. Overlap can be a good thing under the right circumstances. What is the real reason for her rejecting this Blue health care coalition? Did her feelings get hurt at a NGA meeting?”
“It’s really just about public health,” said Colorado Governor Jared Polis. “The more expertise that is cut from federal agencies such as the CDC and the FDA, he said, the more states will need to find ways to re-create capabilities to protect the public’s health.”
The campaign to challenge Senator Susan Collins (R) for her Senate seat next year is barely underway and Governor Mills, 77, has already fumbled the ball at the line of scrimmage. That happened on her first play on Maine’s first down in the game. Or, she is knee deep in ahhhh——mmmm her overpriced L. L. Bean boots. Age matters, although the Governor has carefully steered clear of the controversy over her age in public forums.
“If Washington cuts back further, I think many states will find that it’s more efficient and cost effective to work together,” said Polis in the “Journal” article referred to above.
“What else is the Governor not telling us?,” wonders this blogger. “She’s not true Blue? Is there a little streak of Red somewhere in her?”
