Immigrants Make America Great Says This Button, Despite Trump..

Governor Janet T. Mills (D-ME) announced late this afternoon her intent to allow LD 1971, An Act to Protect Workers in This State by Clarifying the Relationship of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies with Federal Immigration Authorities, to become law.

“As a former District Attorney and Attorney General and now as Governor, I carefully considered this bill.  I’ve weighed my concerns that it imposes confusing restraints on law enforcement about when they can and can’t interact with Federal authorities against the extraordinary and horrifying actions of a Federal agency that has been weaponized by the President to undermine the rights of all. And I also agree with the bill’s aim of ensuring that Maine law enforcement are enforcing Maine laws, not Federal immigration law,” the Governor wrote.  “LD 1971 is imperfect and we should not need it, but the times call for it.  We cannot turn a blind eye to ICE’s unacceptable actions and so I have chosen to allow LD 1971 to become law.”

While it’s admirabble for the Governor who is running for the US Senate by the way, to be concerned about the decision making ability of Maine law enforcement, there is more to it than that.  Public pressure against her admirability may have won the day.  On December 1, this blogger revealed that she indeed had not signed LD 1971,  Thie blogger emailed her aide de camp Scott Ogden asking why she did not sign this legislation.  Scott’s response was:  “We wish you much joy and happiness during the holiday season, Carol.”

“This blogger wishes Governor Mills an early happy and joyous 78th birthday on December 30, 2025.”
