The Friends of Casco Bay has just received a grant in the amount of $100,000 from the prestigious Jane’s Trust.

Executive Director Cathy Ramsdell said in a press release:  “This is a watershed moment for Friends of Casco Bay.  The task before us is not simply to hire another staff person to fill a vacant seat, but rather to grow our capacity so we can tackle the enormous issues our coastal waters will face in the coming decade.  From warming oceans to acidification threatening shellfish resources to storm surges that threaten the resiliency of coastal communities, we need to rise to the challenges before us to fulfill the charge inherent in our mission.”

The first employee of Casco Bay was Joe Payne who retired in January 2015 after 24 years with the non-profit.  The board of Friends of Casco bay has named Executive Director Cathy Ramsdell as interim Casco baykeeper until a new Baykeeper is hired.  A call for applications for the new Casco Baykeeper position will be posted by June 24.
