This morning at 10:53, the Portland Fire Department was dispatched to 55 Morning Street to investigate a notification received from the building’s alarm system. While en route, we received further information indicating an active structural fire, at which time a full Desk Box assignment was dispatched.
Ladder 1 arrived at 10:56 and found active fire on the building’s exterior, involving a fourth-floor deck with potential extension into the building. The All Hands assignment was struck for a working fire on arrival. Companies quickly confirmed the building was clear of occupants and attacked the fire. At 11:01 the fire was considered knocked down with overhaul operations continuing.
No injuries were reported. Multiple building occupants have been temporarily displaced. The Morning Street area was closed briefly for operations and investigation, but it is currently open. No informtion about the cause of origin of the fire is available at this time, but we are happy to report the building’s working alarm system provided valuable time with early notification that supported resident safety and rapid mitigation of the fire.
