The Pittsfield Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 693 Canaan Road early this morning, December 26, 2025, in the town of Pittsfield.

Upon arrival firefighters found the home heavily engulfed in fire.  The Pittsfield Fire Department requested assistance from the Office of the State Fire Marhsal to determine the origin and cause of the fire.  State Fire investigators determined the fire originated in the ceiling area of the kitchen.  Based on the information currently available, the fire is not considered suspicious.  Fire investigators must complete additional interviews before making a final determination regarding the cause of the fire.  During the investigation, fire investigators located two deceased dogs in the fire debris.   The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.  A neighbor had been attending to the dogs on a daily basis.
