Fatal Fire in Presque Isle Under Investigation by MSP

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at about 3:43 am., the Presque Isle Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 139 Ginn Road.  Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions on the second floor of the residence.  Two occupants were able to escape the fire safely.  Firefighters were advised that a third occupant remained unaccounted for and was believed to be on the second floor.  A team of State Fire Marshal Investigators responsed to the scene.  One adult male was located deceased inside the home.  Investigators have determined the fire originated in the deceaased male’s bedroom.  The cause of the fire remains under invesstigation

The victim will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine the cause of death and confirm positive identification.  The investigation is ongoing.and additional information will be released as it becomes available.  Investigators determined that  a functioning smoke detector on the first floor alerted the two occupants who were able to escape safely.  There were no working smoke detectors on the second floor, where the fire originated.
