On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at approximately 5:02 pm., the Skowhegan Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire with possible entrapment at a residence at 31 Waye Street. Multiple agencies responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters attempted a rescue but were met with heavy fire condttions. An adult was later located deceased inside the residence. The Office of State Fire Marshal was notified and responded to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. Investigators are expected to remain on scene throughout the night and likely into tomorrow.
The deceased will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for positive identification. The cause of the fire remains under investigation according to a press release received this evening from Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, for the Maine Department of Public Safety, Augusta.
