Eliot Cuter, 79, of Brooklin, was arrested late this afternoon at a hotel in South Portland for violation of the conditions of his probation according to a press release released early this evening from Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, for the Maine Department of Public Safety, Augusta.
This afternoon Maine State Police Detectives were in Cumberland County conducting separate, unrelated investigative activity and were at a hotel in South Portland when Mr. Cutler was encountered. During that interaction, it was determined that Cutler was in violaltion of the condidtions of his probation.
After consulting with Cutler’s Probateion Officer, Cutler was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Jail, where he is being held on a probation hold. No additional information is being released at this time.
Mr. Cutler was born in Bangor in 1946. He is a former lawyer, political candidate and sex offender. His father was a phyician and his mother an economist. He graduated from Deerfield Aademy, Harvard College and earned a law degree from Georgetown Law. He was a founding member of Cutler & Stanfield LLP which became the second-largest environental law firm in the country.
