A Pile of Snow Left the Footprint of the Plows That Dumped the snow Near the Waterfront.

DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant was Closed Today Due to the Storm According to the Whie Sign in the Photo.  It is to be the Scene of Next Week’s Carnaval Maine – Relocated from the Eastern Promenade on Munjoy Hill Due to a Lack of Snow in Recent Years.  But Come Back for Carnaval Maine Next Week.

Dog walkers, snow blowers and occasional snowman makers dominated the landscape on the east end of Portland today following an early morning snow storm that dumped  some  snow on the  landscape, but probably not as much as was predicted for the southern coast of Maine. The storm is expected to continue into the evening – leaving even more of the white stuff to be plowed away.

A tour of the area disclosed that the main streets – such as Congress and Commercial Streets – were snow free, although wet.  Streets that this blogger traversed on Munjoy Hill were likewise snow free as well.

A gentleman on St. Lawrence Street was using his snow blower to clear his driveway of snow. He gave a friendly wave to this blogger, although she was unable to post his photo on this story for an unknown reason!

DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant on Commercial Street, the location of next weeks Carnaval, Maine, was closed today due to the storm as were most other businesses on Commercial Street and Congress Streets. It’s parking lot is the location of the third Carnaval Maine that was relocated from the Eastern Promenade this year.  In past years, the snow event suffered from  the lack of snow in the area. Numerous truck loads of snow had to be imported from elsewhere to accommodate the skiing and other snow related events held there.  Additionallly, some neighbors were unhappy because dog walkers were restricted access to the beach area – a favorite exercise area for Hill dogs.  Yes, Maine weather is unpredictable.

In anticipation of this snow storm,  yesterday the city of Portland called for a parking ban for Friday night and this evening, Saturday, March 4th. This blogger noticed that the snow storm didn’t begin until around 5:00 am.  So, this blogger wonders if callling for a parking ban for Friday night was the right call by city hall.

Someone HAD to ask the hard question!
