The public is invited to turn off their televisions, lock their doors. watch a parade and enjoy a BBQ tomorrow at Peppermint Park. It’s set for Tuesday August 2nd in East Bayside according to a press release issued by Mayo Street Arts earlier today. The event starts at 5:30 pm at the Mayo Street Theater, 10 Mayo Street and ends at 8:00 pm with a free BBQ at Peppermint Park on Cumberland Avenue.
This is the fourth year that East Bayside has joined a national night out movement encouraging neighbors to come out and get to know each other on a summer evening. There is no rain date for the event according to Suna Shaw, East Bayside Community Policing Coordinator on Mayo Street. (It’s the same office that Janine Kaserman, Munjoy Hill Community Policing Coordinator is using temporarily until her new office at the Cummings Center is ready to be occupied. That Center is relocating from the MHNO headquarters on Congress Street.)
The parade will begin at 6:00 pm at the Mayo Street Arts and wind through Kennedy Park ending at Peppermint Park. At 6:30 pm there will be several speakers including Police Chief Michael Sauschuck and the Figurehead Mayor Ethan Strimling and District 1 City Councilor Belinda Ray. Two young people will be given awards for their winning essays on why they like living in Portland. Musical entertainment will also be featured.
Target stores has been a generous supporter of the Night Out in East Bayside.
