Attorney Victoria Morales received the full approval of the city council this evening to assume responsibilities as Associate Corporation Counsel on August 8, 2016. Her salary will be $97,000.
Morales has an impressive background in both the private and public sector. She previously has worked at Thompson & Bowie on municipal general liability matters. She was an attorney for the Maine DOT advising on emminent domain litigation. She will provide legal advice to the planning office, the Department of Public Works as well as other city offices. Her background is one that has been missing from city hall.
A rundown group of rental apartments on Newbury Street, some condemned in the past, came a step closer to condominiums when the City Council approved an easement for footings and a roof overhang to the developer – Luminato Condominium LLC. The strip at 169 Newbury Street was once owned by hedge fund owner S. Donald Sussman, former husband of US Rep. Chellie Pingree (D). Tom Federlee, former/present real estate attorney for Sussman is one of the partners in Luminato Condominium, LLC. that is planning on 26 uints. (See photo of the demolition above left.)
