Portland Publilc Library, 5 Monuent Square, Portland is the Site of a Cooling Center, Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The downtown Portland Public Library at 5 Monument Square will serve as Portland’s cooling center on Tuesday, July 14 during its normal hours of 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.  While Portland is not currently included on the heat advisory for interior Cumberland County, the City of Portland is activating a cooling center  due to forecasted extreme temperatures.  The library is also available Wednesday, July 15 during the same hours if needed.

Additionally, the city urges people to take advantage of the Deering Oaks Ravine and the several splash pads around the city.  The city’s new outdoor pool – the Rising Eddy Community Pool – is also now open.

People are urged to limit outdoor activiies, drink plenty of water and wear light colored clothing.  We ask that you check on yur elderly neighbors to make sure they are okay and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
