It has been reported by several news sources this evening, that Emily Gregory has flipped a state house special election race, District 87, that previously belonged to Republicans  – and significantly is the same district in which Trump’s home – Mar- a- Lago is located.

The attractive Gregory beat a Republican that Trump had endorsed – Jon Maples.  The vote was 51% for Gregory and 49% for Maples.  Gregory based her campaign on issues of rising costs that Trump has called a “fake” agenda by democrats.  Maples; race focused on his business experience and pledged to cut taxes for residents of  District 87.

In a cable news interview this evening, Ms. Gregory said that when she decided to enter this race in Trump’s front yard, she believed it was possible to win here.  But, others thought it was an “insane” idea.  She recommended to potential candidates:  “Just Go For it if you Want Different Representatives.  It is so important to have different voices these days.” Trump won this District in his 2024 election by 11 points. One cable news anchor called this major upset:  “A delicious rebuke of President Trump.”

Another irony is that Trump voted by absentee ballot in this race – which he  currently called “corrupt.”  Something he knows a lot about.
