Convicted Killer Cavalcante Moments After His Capture Just After 800 am This Morning.

Convicted killer Danelo Cavalcante was captured this morning just after 8:00 am near a tractor supply company following two weeks  on the run from his escape from a prison near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

It was a combination of technology, police officers and a K-9 dog that finally brought Cavalcante into custody according to Lt. Colonel Christopher Bevins, of the Pensylvania State Police, who described the capture at a press conference.  There were no injuries to law enforcement and the public and no shots were fired. However, Cavalcante received a minor scalp wound from the K-9 who bit him prior to the capture.  No medical treatment was required for the wound.  The press conference began just before 10:00 am and lasted until just after 10:30 am with Begins answering many questions from the press following his description of the capture.

The capture began – when just after midnight last night a burglary alarm went off in the Chester County area.  Around 1:00 am., a fixed-wing aircraft searching in the area “picked up a heat source that was moving,” according to Bevins.  A thunder storm erupted at the time. Law enforcement put a hold on the search.  Moments later the searach resumed.  Cavalcante was surrounded by about 20 – 25 law enforcement members.  He did not realize that he was surrounded at the time. Law enforcement were able to move in quietly and he was surprised at their presence.  The dog was sent in to subdue him and Cavalcante tried to escape by crawling through the grassy floor of the ravine – the recently stolen rifle with him.  He continued to try to resist until the  K-9 contained him with a bite on his head.  No shots were fired during the subsequent capture.

He was being driven to a nearby Pennsylvania State Police barracks where he will be interviewed  about his escape, although he does not have to cooperate in that interview accoding to Bevins.  At some point, he will be housed in a state correctional facility, to be named following his arrival there.  Discussions with the state DA will be held on whether or not additional charges will be entered against him.

At the start of the press conference, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) thanked members of law enforcement and said this is  “how law enfrcement is supposed to work.”  He also thanked members of the public for their “support of law enforcement.” He joked that whoever was missing an Eagles hoodie would get one back from the Governor.  That is what Cavalcante was wearing when captured this morning.
