Former Amb to the United Nations Susan Rice Said There Should be an Investigation into This Security Breach.
The fallout today from the alarming news that journalist Jeffrey Golderg, of “The Atlantic” was invited by Michael Walz, US National Security Advisor, to join the Signal chat room where detailed plans for the upcoming attack in Yemen were detailed, was front and center on the minds of Washington, DC politicians.
Republican politicans and cabinet chiefs at a hearing this morning tried to disassociate themselves from the controversy. When that failed them, Talsi Gabbard, US Director of National Intelligence, and her colleagues shifted saying that Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense, was solely responsible for the .use of the Signal platform. Gabbard claimed there was nothing classified on the Signal platform. That was at a Senate Intel Committee meeting that Senator Susan Collins (R) was conveniently absent from because of “illness.” Who can blame her for not wanting to show her Republican hand publicly when she knows it is wrong.
Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense, like any coward was quick to blame “The Atlantic” for his incompetency in the scandal. He accused the highly-regarded publication of looking for ways to increase its circulation by spreading false information. Hegseth refused to take responsibility for his incompetence in this alarming security breach. Rather, he unleased an attack on the editor, Jeffrey Goldberg, of “The Atantic.” Convicted Felon Trump said this afternoon that Michael Walz will not be fired. He has “leaned his lesson.” This blogger remembers how Senator Collins (R) once said that about CF himself. As stated in a previous post herein on the subject, did Hegseth forget that he promised to stop drinking if he were to assume the position of Secretary of Defense?
But Democrats stood their ground and called for an investigation into this security breach. As Senator Mark Warner (D) of Virginia asked: “If this is not classified information, why not make it public?”
