Portland Public Health Director Fowler Resigns; Replacement Sought

Bob Fowler, Public Health Director for the City of Portland, announced yesterday that he is resigning effective November 3 to pursue other professional and personal opportunities.  Fowler began his employment with the City of Portland on August 17, 2020.  Prior to that he served as the Executive Director for Milestone Recovery for six years.  Previously  he was employed at Sweetser and Community Counseling Center.

HHS Director Tina Pettengill will serve as interim public health director until a new Director is hired.

The City is now seeking qualified candidates to fill the Public Health Director within the Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Public Health.  The position is responsible for the overall administration of Portland’s public health programs, including development of program policy assessment of community needs and assessment of the available resources to meet these needs.  This leadership position requires responsibility for public health issues, financial management and long range and strategic planning for public health programs.

The starting salary range is $88,908 – $109,338.
