Casco Bay Island Transit District (CBITD) is receiving a $2,683,915. grant from the Federal Transit Administration through the CARES ACT passed by Congress in March according to a pres release from Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D) issued by her office today.
The more than $2 million grant will support operations, administrative and preventative maintenance costs for the CBITD ferries in response to COVID-19’s public health and economic consequences.
“I supported the CARES ACT in part because it provided support and funding for organizations across our economy – from small businesses to arts organizations to transportation,” said Congresswoman Pingree. “I’m pleased to see CBITD receive this sizeable grant which will go a long way toward retaining jobs, keeping the ferries and facilities clean and making sure islanders have reliable transportation home,” said Pingree.
