Armed Brunswick Man Arrested in Portland After Police Standoff on Forest Avenue

On Friday, June 23, just after 7:00 pm. police were called to the Burger King at 449 Forest Aenue, after a man that went through the drive through lane made a threat to an employee and displayed a rifle, before driving away into the parking lot.

Officers locatdd the vehicle and driver in the parking lot.  They conducted a high-risk traffic stop and were unable to get the subject to cooperate as he refused to exit the vehicle.

After more than two hours of negotiations and trying to get Gabriel McKusick, 44, of Brunswick,  police used non-lethal distraction devices and chemicl irrants thatd allowed officers to safely reove him from the vehicle and McKusick was taken into custody.  He was treated on scene for minor cuts from broken glass and then brought to Maine Medical Center, before being brought to the Cumberland County Jail.  An AR-15 rifle with a double stacked magazine totalling almost 60 rounds of ammunition was found in his vehicle.  McKusick was charged with multple charges including Creating a Police Standoff.
