Rental Bikes Are Still Available in Parts of Portland.

Portland Police are urging citizens to take extra precautions when leaving their bikes outside.  The Police Department is estimating that nearly 100 bikes (five per week) have been stolen in the city since June 1st.

Here are some tips for securing your bike.

  1. Write down your serial number and take a picture of you with the bike; 2. Always use a U or D-lock.  Never use only a cable lock.  These can easily be cut through with cable-cutters or a saw.  Bike thieves will give up if they need to take too much time and effirt on unlocking a bike; 3. Use a bike rack; 4. Lock your wheel and frame together; 5. Lock your bike in a well-lit and well-traveled area; 6. Take the battery out of your electric bike; 7. Protect  your bike with an Anti-Theft GPS Bike Tracker; and 8. If at all possible, always store your bike inside.
