At a noontime press conference today, Coach Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, confirmed what many had supected – that the two decided to part ways at a meeting held yesterday.
In his remarks, Coach Belichick thanked the fans for their loyalty during his tenure with the Patriots. “Patriots fans have been amazing. I”ll always be a Patriot. But we are moving on,” Coach said.
When he spoke Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, thanked Bill. “We met and mutually agreed to part ways.” He said that any marriage can be hard to maintain, but it’s amazing that this “marriage” with Coach Belichick lasted for 24 years.
Kraft said when he hired the Coach he had great expectations, but we exceeded those expectations. “Didn’t we?” he said to Coach Belichick, a man of few words, reponded. “Yes” from off camera. Kraft said it’s an emotional day for him as it is for Patriots’ fans. “He is the greatest coach of all time. But this is a move we mutually agreed to at this time.” Kraft quipped he would not like seeing Coach Belichick in a hoodie on the sideline of a team other than the Patriots – playig against our Patriots.
Ending the press release after listing his record setting accomplishments as head coach of the Patriots, Kraft joked: “I’d kiss him, but he has a cold.”
