Woodfords Church Developer Submits Major Proposal for its Partial Redevelopment to Planning Office

Woodford Street Congregational Church is Celebrating its 150th Anniversary.

Portland’s Planning Department announced this morning that it has received a major stie plan proposal  for the redevelopmet of a portion of Woodford Street Congregational Church by Community Housing of Maine (CHOM).  Located at 186 Woodford Street, the project would involve the renovation of the existing Parish  House into 37 age-restricted affordable units and the construction of a new building with 42 age-restricted affordable units.  The project also includes various parking, utility and landscaping improvements.

The land containing the Parish House and the new affordacble housing building will be owned and maintained by CHOM and the Church will continue to function as a place of worship under the existing ownership authority.  The subject property totals 1.92 acres and is zoned B-2 Community Business.

It is expected that none of these units will be ready for occupancy for at least two years from now.
