On Sunday; June 15, volunteers will cleanup Back Cove, one of Portland’s most beloved waterways and trails. The clean up occurs from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm and starts at the Preble Street parking lot in Back Cove – across from the Hannaford Plaza – look for the tent there.
This is a prelude to Monday, June 16, when the Portland City Council will vote on ordinances that would establish a 5 cent fee on single-use shopping bags and a ban on single-use foam packaging.
The event is hosted by the National Resource Council of Maine and the Surfrider Foundation Maine Chapter. Others, including City Council members, have been invited to attend. For more information, contact Todd Norton at Todd@nrcm.org or 207-776-4899.
